Rob was educated at the University of Cape Town. He has a BA and an MBA degree. Rob was nominated as an Old Mutual Scholar and awarded the MBA Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance.

Rob began his career in communication at IMA and joined Ogilvy in 1989. Initially, he worked as a copywriter, winning several South African awards including a Gold Loerie. However, for the last 18 years, he has worked as a Strategic Planner on a diverse range of brands across fast moving consumer goods, financial services and the automotive category.

He has lectured on branding and communication strategy at both the University of the Witwatersrand and at the University of Cape Town. Rob is currently a regular contributor to the Unilever Institute of Strategic Marketing and has authored several papers in the Business Day Management Review.

Rob has a particular interest in corporate brand development, the increasing importance of branding in corporate strategy, internal brand management and ethnographic research.

Rob is passionate about the changing world of communication and the possibilities that abound in the new world of integrated communication and has been intimately involved in developing Ogilvy South Africa's Digital business including the launch of Neo@Ogilvy, the Ogilvy Mobile Partnership, and the Ogilvy Digital Marketing Academy. Rob serves on the Boards of Ogilvy South Africa, Added Value, Coley Porter Bell, Brand Activation and Zoom Retail Marketing.

Rob lives in Newlands, Cape Town. He's married to Michelle and has two children, Joshua and Sebastian. If he had more time, he would do more mountain biking.
